Acquiring a dog is a great pleasure and brings many advantages but above all it is a responsibility and a commitment with some constraints. It is good to follow certain advice and adopt good practices so that everything goes as smoothly as possible.
The importance of the training phase
The Pomeranian is very lively and receptive to commands so it is quite easy to train him. However, he has a very independent behavior and rubs shoulders quite easily with those older than him. We must therefore teach him caution. Likewise, he has a strong tendency to bark, which must be channeled from a very young age, and he greatly appreciates the company of his master so it is necessary to accustom him from a young age to being alone from time to time. . As with all puppies, you will have to be very patient at the beginning and accept that he will do some mischief and go through a phase of adaptation in terms of cleanliness.
Daily “constraints”
Your Pomeranian will need to be taken out regularly, several times a day to do his business if you live in an apartment, and regularly anyway for walks and exercise. He must be fed at regular times and his water must be changed daily. In terms of hygiene, this is a dog that requires regular brushing because it has particularly abundant hair. Like all pets, he will also need caresses and attention.
Hazards to be expected
Your Pomeranian may have an impact on your vacation plans, for example. You can't go everywhere with your dog, even if its small size makes it easy to transport. If necessary, you will need to be able to leave it in the care of a trusted person. Likewise, a dog has a certain cost: whether it is the purchase, for some, to provide him with quality food or the various accessories he will need. Veterinarian fees must be taken into account and you will also need to plan a grooming budget if you cannot do it yourself.
Long-term responsibility
His “plush” side tends to melt, especially when he is a baby, but he has a life expectancy of 10 to 20 years, so it is a long-term commitment. Your life can evolve, whether on a family or professional level. You may also have to change accommodation... In any case, you will need to include your dog in your plans. It is also preferable that the whole family rejoices at the arrival of your pet because it will require attention from each member. Imposing a dog on someone who doesn't want it can cause tension afterwards. In fact, the dog will often ask you for help and will be dependent on its owners in general.
Despite these few disadvantages to take into consideration before welcoming a Pomeranian, you must not forget that it is above all an excellent pet, jovial and affectionate, which will bring you comfort and companionship on a daily basis. So it's worth making some compromises.
